1. Restore from OneDrive Web Recycle Bin
If you accidentally delete a file or folder in OneDrive, you can restore it from the OneDrive Recycle Bin:
Steps:
- Go to Office.com, sign in with your work or school account.
- Open OneDrive from the app launcher.
- In the left navigation pane, select Recycle Bin.
- Select the items to restore by checking the box next to each file or folder.
- Click Restore.
Retention Periods:
- Microsoft account (personal): Items are deleted after 30 days.
- Work or school account: Items are deleted after 93 days, unless modified by an administrator
2. Restore from Local Device (Windows or macOS)
Windows:
- Open the Recycle Bin.
- Right-click the deleted item and select Restore.
- The item will be restored to its original location.
macOS:
- Open the Trash.
- Right-click the deleted item and select Put Back.
Note: Files marked as online-only in OneDrive will not appear in your local Recycle Bin or Trash.
3. Restore Entire OneDrive (Microsoft 365 Subscribers)
If you need to undo multiple changes or recover from ransomware or mass deletion:
Steps:
- Sign in to OneDrive.
- Click the Settings gear icon > Options.
- Select Restore your OneDrive.
- Choose a date or use the activity graph to select a restore point.
- Confirm and restore.
This feature allows rollback of OneDrive to a previous state within the last 30 days
