1. Restoring Previous Versions of Stream Videos
- Supported Scenario: You can restore previous versions of videos only if they are stored in OneDrive or SharePoint, which is the case for Stream (on SharePoint). This includes Teams meeting recordings and uploaded videos.
- How to Restore:
- Go to Microsoft Stream.
- Navigate to Created by me.
- Locate the video and click … > Open > Open file location.
- In OneDrive or SharePoint, right-click the video and select Version history.
- Choose the version to restore and click Restore.
Restoring a version replaces the current version. To preserve the current version, make a copy before restoring .
2. Changes to Version History Behavior (2024 Update)
- Metadata Edits: Changes to metadata (title, description, transcript, etc.) no longer create a new version. These edits now update the current version directly .
- Video Edits: Actual changes to the video file (e.g., replacing or trimming) do create a new version.
- Storage Management: Microsoft has introduced version history limits and controls to reduce storage usage from low-value versions .
3. Limitations and Permissions
- Only the file owner (typically the meeting host or uploader) can restore previous versions.
- Admins can act on files if they assign themselves as site admins in SharePoint or OneDrive.
- Deleted videos can be recovered from the recycle bin for up to 93 days (work/school accounts), unless retention policies override this
