In Microsoft 365, you can open, edit, and collaborate on files stored in OneDrive or SharePoint using familiar desktop apps like Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
This guide covers how syncing works, how to enable Autosave, and how to manage access when working with others.
How Sync Works:
OneDrive syncs your personal or work files directly to your local device.
SharePoint syncs files from team sites or shared libraries, making team collaboration easier.
đź’ľ Autosave
Autosave feature in Microsoft 365 apps helps automatically save any changes in real time when you're working on files stored in OneDrive or SharePoint.
How to Enable Autosave:
- Open a file from OneDrive or SharePoint in Word, Excel or PowerPoint.
-
In the top-left corner, toggle Autosave to 'On'.
- Once it is turned on, you would not need to press Ctrl+S or the 'Save' icon every few minutes.
Please note: If Autosave is greyed out, the file might be stored locally or opened from an unsupported location. Try saving it to OneDrive or SharePoint first.
Enable Autosave for a New File
If you are working on a newly created file. In the top-left corner of the window, look for the Autosave toggle.
If it says Off, click it to turn it On.
The app will prompt you to save the file to OneDrive or SharePoint.
Choose a location in your OneDrive or a shared library.
Give your file a name and click Save.
Once saved to the cloud, Autosave will stay on, and your changes will be saved automatically as you work.
