Mac is running slowly or apps take a long time to open.
Environment

Resolution
Follow these steps to improve system performance:
Step 1: Check Resource Usage
- Open Activity Monitor:
- Navigate to Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor.
- Review CPU and Memory tabs for apps consuming high resources.
Step 2: Close Resource-Heavy Apps
- Select the app in Activity Monitor.
- Click the X button in the top-left corner to quit the process.
Step 3: Restart Your Mac
- Click Apple Menu > Restart.
Step 4: Update macOS
- Go to Apple Menu > System Settings > Software Update.
- Install any available updates.
Step 5: Free Up Disk Space
- Click Apple Menu > About This Mac > Storage > Manage.
- Remove unnecessary files or enable Optimize Storage.
Step 6: Reset PRAM/NVRAM
- Shut down your Mac.
- Turn it on and immediately hold Option + Command + P + R.
- Keep holding for about 20 seconds, then release.
Step 7: Reset SMC
- Shut down your Mac.
- On the built-in keyboard, hold Shift + Control + Option and Power for 10 seconds.
- Release all keys and restart your Mac.
Additional Notes
- Ensure at least 10–15% free disk space for optimal performance.
- If issues persist, consider running Disk Utility > First Aid or reinstalling macOS.
