Overview
Resetting OneDrive can help resolve common synchronization problems when restarting the application does not fix the issue.
A reset may help when:
- OneDrive is stuck on Processing changes.
- Files are not syncing.
- The OneDrive cloud icon disappears or does not behave correctly.
- OneDrive stops responding.
- The synchronization status appears incorrect.
- Changes made in OneDrive are not appearing on the computer.
- OneDrive continues showing synchronization errors.
A OneDrive reset is different from deleting your OneDrive folder or removing files. Do not manually delete your OneDrive folder as part of this procedure.

Before You Reset OneDrive
Before performing a reset:
- Make sure your computer has an active internet connection.
- Save and close any files currently open from OneDrive.
- Check the OneDrive cloud icon for an error or warning.
- Try quitting and reopening OneDrive first.
- If the problem continues, proceed with the reset.
After a reset, OneDrive may need some time to rebuild its synchronization information, particularly if you have many files or connected SharePoint libraries.

Allow the reset process to finish.
macOS Step 4: Start OneDrive Again
- Open Applications.
- Open OneDrive.
- Complete the setup process if prompted.
- Sign in with your work or school account.
- If OneDrive asks you to choose a synchronization location, carefully select the same OneDrive folder location that you previously used.
- Allow OneDrive time to complete synchronization.
What Happens After a Reset?
Resetting OneDrive does not delete files stored in OneDrive. However, you may notice the following:
- OneDrive performs a full synchronization.
- The synchronization status may take some time to update.
- OneDrive may ask you to sign in again.
- Existing synchronization connections are rebuilt.
- Previously selected folders may need to be selected again.
- Connected SharePoint libraries may take additional time to appear.
For large OneDrive or SharePoint libraries, synchronization may take longer to complete. Avoid resetting OneDrive repeatedly while this process is in progress.
OneDrive Still Is Not Working
If OneDrive continues having problems after the reset, avoid repeatedly resetting the application.
Additional troubleshooting may include:
- Checking the affected OneDrive or SharePoint library
- Checking available OneDrive storage
- Reviewing specific synchronization errors
- Checking OneDrive sign-in credentials
- Unlinking and reconnecting the OneDrive account
- Updating OneDrive
- Reinstalling OneDrive
On macOS, additional troubleshooting may include unlinking and reconnecting the Mac or clearing the documented OneDrive Cached Credential from Keychain Access.
Reinstalling OneDrive should be treated as a later troubleshooting step. If the problem continues, contact BEMO Support.
